LEISURELY

Run fast or take things slow, embrace your own pace

In A Nutshell: Anything that relates the enjoyment of being home at a particular time of day. Its really a lifestyle page.

WHY LEISURELY

Every era has probably thought of itself as the most fast-paced or described itself as increasingly fast-paced. That wouldn’t be wrong either, as time and technology progress, life’s pace seems to accelerate.

Nowadays, people find ways to better their quality of life,

Longevity is an issue with diets such as Paleo becoming more and more popular and a return to traditional holistic methods of healing become popular. I always found it strange how I myself have become so obsessed with these things when I know full well that human life expectancy today is higher than that of a caveman’s. I am willing to try anything…

Staying in can be very rewarding and in Leisurely, we classify things according to the time of day it might be optimal to do so. But really, this categorisation is a mere suggestion. Engaging in leisure leads to an increased sense of wellbeing.

A strong correlation between leisure and wellbeing has been suggested by several academics. Likewise, a correlation between our living environment and wellbeing exists as well. All these things contribute to happiness at home, which is a personal daily goal.

WHAT IS LEISURE

How we percieve leisure is completely subjective, and we all have different ideas on what we consider fun and relaxing. Even with ourselves, our own definition of what is enjoyable is constantly in motion depending on our own moods and personalities.

‘The leisure and culture domain of the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) embraces the free time participation and experiential aspects of Canadians’ engagement with arts, culture, and recreation and the significant contributions to the wellbeing of individuals, communities, and society at large this engagement makes.

“Leisure is considered primarily as a condition, sometimes referred to as a state of being, an attitude of mind or a quality of experience. It is distinguished by the individual’s perceived freedom to act and distinguished from conditions imposed by necessity. It is assumed to be pleasurable and, although it may appeal because of certain anticipated benefits, it is intrinsically motivated: it is an end in itself and valuable for its own sake.” (Cushman & Laidler, 1990, p. 1)

“Culture is the set of distinctive spiritual, material, intellectual and emotional features of a society or a social group that encompasses not only art and literature, but lifestyles, ways of living together, value systems, traditions, and beliefs.” (UNESCO, 2009, p. 1)
